Generals Down Hornets, 15-7

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Top-ranked Washington and Lee held Lynchburg without a shot and surged to a 7-0 lead in the first 17:30 of the game in posting a 15-7 win over the Hornets in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The win was the Generals' 16th ODAC victory in a row and set up a matchup with Hampden-Sydney on Saturday for the ODAC Championship and the accompanying NCAA Tournament bid.

Sophomore midfielder Tom Melanson (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) led the way for the Generals, tallying three goals and three assists and winning 19-of-24 faceoffs on the day. Senior attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) totaled three goals and two assists, while senior attackman Tom Burke (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) notched two goals and one assist. Junior midfielder John Moore (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) added two assists. Senior goalie Wes Hays (Pasadena, Md./Loyola) posted six saves on the day.

Lynchburg (6-5, 3-2) was led by freshman attackman Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, Md./Arundel), who scored a game-high six goals. Freshman attackman Jeff Mullenix (Riva, Md./South River) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Freshman goalies Chris Johnson (Chantilly, Va./Centreville) and Nick Braun (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) combined to make five saves.

The Generals (11-0, 4-0) out-shot Lynchburg by a 41-26 count and held the same advantage in ground balls.

Washington and Lee returns to action at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
