Generals Roll Past Guilford, 24-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) became the Old Dominion Athletic Conference career scoring leader in helping top-ranked Washington and Lee to a 24-1 win over Guilford in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Dugan scored two goals and assisted on three others to break the record of 267 points held by Paul Tomick and Frank Smollen of Randolph-Macon. Dugan's total currently stands at 270 (170 g, 100 a).

The Generals (10-0, 3-0) led 10-0 at the half and held Guilford scoreless until 16 seconds remained in the third period when GC freshman attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) scored off an assist from freshman attackman Rob Mallonee (Baltimore, Md./Sandy Spring Friends).

W&L was led by senior midfielder Bernie Norton (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall), who tallied four goals and two assists. Senior position-mate Pope Hackney (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) notched three goals and one assist, while junior attackman Andrew Barnett (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored two goals and dished out two assists. All told, 14 different players scored for the Generals.

Senior Wes Hays (Pasadena, Md./Loyola) recorded five saves in 45 minutes of action in front of the cage for W&L. Senior Anthony Roman (New York, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael's) posted 21 saves in net for the Quakers (4-6, 0-4).

Washington and Lee will be in action again on Wednesday afternoon as it hosts Lynchburg in an ODAC contest at 3:30 pm.
