W&L Men's Lax Knocks Off F&M, 15-4

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior attackman Andrew Barnett (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored a career-high five goals and added an assist to help lead second-ranked Washington and Lee to a 15-4 win over 15th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Diplomats (4-1) scored the game's first goal at the 12:32 mark of the first quarter as senior midfielder Greg Ivry (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay) notched an unassisted tally. The Generals (5-0) responded by scoring the next 10 goals en route to a 10-1 halftime advantage. Barnett scored four of his goals during the stretch as did senior attackman Tom Burke (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). Burke totaled a career-high five goals on the day, including the game's final goal while laying on his back.

Franklin & Marshall scored the first two goals of the second half to cut the W&L lead to 10-3, but could get no closer than the seven-goal deficit.

Senior attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) notched one goal and three assists and senior midfielder Bernie Norton (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) added one goal and one assist. Senior Wes Hays (Pasadena, Md./Loyola) stopped six F&M shots in goal. Sophomore midfielder Tom Melanson (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) won 17-of-21 faceoffs in the game.

The Generals out-shot the Diplomats 54-21 and limited F&M to just 14 successful clears in 24 attempts.

Ivry led F&M with two goals, while junior attackman Andrew Kuskowski (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) tallied a pair of assists. Senior David Kahn (Bethesda, Md./Landon) stopped 18 shots in goal.

Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday as it opens ODAC-play at Virginia Wesleyan. Faceoff is slated for 1:30 pm.
