CARLISLE, Pa. -- Washington and Lee jumped out to a 10-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-3 victory over Dickinson in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon in Carlisle, Pa.
Senior midfielder Pope Hackney (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) and senior attacker Tom Burke (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) both tallied three goals and added one assist as the Generals improved to 4-0 on the season.
Junior attacker Andrew Barnett (Darien, Conn./Darien) started the scoring in the first period with a goal at the 6:13 mark off an assist from Hackney. Barnett finished the day with two goals and one assist.
Hackney found the net at the 4:06 mark of the first period and freshman midfielder Mike McNamara (Hunt Valley, Md./Loyola) scored two goals in 2:46 late in the first period to give W&L a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
The Generals tacked on six goals in the second period as Burke notched two scores and senior attacker Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) assisted on a pair of goals. Washington and Lee outscored Dickinson, 4-3, in the second half to secure the 11-goal victory. Senior goalkeeper Wes Hays (Pasadena, Md./Loyola) stopped all four shots he faced in 30 minutes of action.
Junior midfielder David Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) scored two goals for W&L, while junior midfielder John Moore (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) and freshman midfielder Dustin Martin (Manilus, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manilus) also collected one goal each.
Dickinson (1-1) was led by Jeremy Angell, who scored two goals on the day. Washington and Lee out-shot the Red Devils, 59-11.
The Generals will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they host Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 pm.
