W&L Blanks Muhlenberg In Doubleheader Sweep

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and freshman Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) threw back-to-back shutouts, allowing only four hits combined as Washington and Lee swept a doubleheader from Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. The Generals won game one, 8-0, before edging the Mules in the nightcap, 1-0.

In the first game, Sigler allowed three hits and struck out 11 batters on the way to picking up his first win of the season. The Generals provided support in the 8-0 shutout by plating four runners in both the third and fourth innings. Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Droppers (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) led the way for W&L by going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Junior third baseman Matt Kozora (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) also drove in two runs, while sophomore leftfielder Bobby Littlehale (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kagey dominated the second game as he allowed just one fifth-inning hit en route to blanking Muhlenberg (0-2). He struck out five batters and walked four. The game was scoreless for five innings before the Generals rallied for the game-winning run in the bottom half of the sixth. Junior designated hitter Todd Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephens) drew a lead-off walk. Sophomore second baseman Todd Johnson (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks) then tripled over the head of sophomore centerfielder Justin Rubenstein (Holland, Pa./Council Rock) to score Gosselink and give W&L the one-run lead. Kagey got out of a jam in the top of the seventh by getting sophomore leftfielder Justin Graf (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) to pop out to Johnson with a runner on second to end the Muhlenberg threat.

Muhlenberg's senior hurler Seth Weinstein (Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore) took the loss, surrendering only one run on three hits over six innings.

Washington and Lee (3-1) will host the Mules again tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm.
