W&L Defeats Randolph-Macon, 18-6

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team wrapped up its' regular season on Wednesday afternoon with an 18-6 victory over the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. With the win, the Generals tie the W&L school-record for regular-season wins with 14.

Junior attackman Tom Burke (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tallied W&L's first goal of the contest at the 9:22 mark of the opening period to tie the game at 1-1. After the teams exchanged goals, senior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, Md./Towson) connected for two consecutive scores to give the Generals (14-1, 6-0 ODAC) a 4-2 lead after the first period. Brown continued to pace Washington and Lee's offense throughout the second quarter, notching three additional goals en route to a 10-5 halftime advantage for W&L.

The Generals put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets by a 4-0 margin for a 14-5 lead heading into the final stanza. Junior midfielder Bernie Norton (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) and senior attackman Colin Dougherty (Timonium, Md./Loyola) opened the fourth with back-to-back goals, less than a minute apart, for a 16-5 W&L lead. From there, the Generals cruised to the 18-6 victory.

W&L was led offensively by Brown, who amassed six goals and two assists on the day. Norton tallied four goals, while Dougherty and junior midfielder Pope Hackney (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) netted two goals and two assists each. Junior Wes Hays (Towson, Md./Towson) made nine saves in goal for the Generals.

Washington and Lee will have to wait to find out its' next opponent, as the brackets for the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament will be announced on Sunday at 7:30 pm on Home Team Sports. The Generals receive an automatic bid to the tournament as the champion of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
