Generals Ease By Franklin & Marshall, 17-10

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Junior attackman Bernie Norton (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) scored four goals and dished out two assists to help lead the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 17-10 win over Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (5-1) opened the scoring just :34 seconds into the contest when senior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, Md./Towson) scored off an assist from senior attackman Colin Dougherty (Timonium, Md./Loyola). The Diplomats retaliated, tying the contest on a goal from Greg Iury at the 8:39 mark. Just :51 seconds later, Norton put the Generals ahead to stay, tallying an unassisted goal. Junior attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) found the net for the first of his four goals just :12 seconds after Norton, increasing the lead to 3-1. The teams then traded goals, ending the first period with Washington and Lee ahead by a count of 4-2.

W&L poured it on in the second quarter, tallying seven goals en route to an 11-5 lead at halftime. Dugan opened the second half with back-to-back goals, giving W&L what proved to be its' largest lead of the contest at 13-5 with 13:36 remaining in the third. From there, W&L would cruise to the win.

Dugan, Norton, and junior midfielder Pope Hackney (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) led the Generals with four goals apiece. Brown notched three goals, while Dougherty added one goal and four assists. Junior Wes Hays (Towson, Md./Loyola) made seven saves in goal for the Generals.

F&M (1-3) was led by Bryan Nolan and Brendan Bigos, each of whom amassed two goals and one assist. Bob Michel and David Kahn combined to stop 14 W&L shots in goal for the Diplomats. W&L will return to action on Saturday, March 25, when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan in a 1:30 pm contest on Wilson Field.
