Generals Edged by Shoremen, 9-8

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Washington and Lee (1-1) held leads of 3-0 and 8-6, but could not hold them as they fell at Washington College (1-0), the  defending national champions, by a 9-8 score in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

W&L took a quick 3-0 lead, but the Shoremen tied the game at 5-5 at  halftime.  In the second half, W&L took an 8-6 lead.  The  Shoremen rallied again, as they scored the final three goals of the  game.  The final Washington goal was scored by senior attackman John Fuller, who scored with 6:55 left in the game to give the Shoremen the one-goal victory.

The Generals were led by sophomore midfielder Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./ Mountain Lakes) and junior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, Md./ Towson), who scored three goals each.  Junior Colin Dougherty (Timonium, Md./Loyola) added two assists.
