LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee's pitching staff limited Division II West Virginia Tech to a combined six hits and one run in sweeping a double-header, 2-0 and 13-1, in baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
In game one, sophomore right hander David Sigler (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout to lead the Generals to a 2-0 win over the Golden Bears. Sigler posted six strikeouts and three walks in upping his record to 3-1 on the season. Senior second baseman Patrick Hall (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) paced the Generals offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, junior left hander Chris Stakem (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) allowed just four hits and one run in six innings of work, striking out five and walking two to even his record at 1-1. Senior catcher E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored the lead the Generals'Â offense.
West Virginia Tech committed five errors which led to seven unearned runs for W&L. The wins upped W&L's overall record to 8-6 on the season, while West Virginia Tech fell to 0-2.
