Generals Clip Bullets, 6-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Fifth-ranked Washington and Lee's defense allowed only three goals in the first 58 minutes of the game as the Generals won at fourth-ranked Gettysburg College (2-1), 6-4 in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Down 2-1 in the second quarter, W&L sophomore midfielder Matt  Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./ Mountain Lakes) scored with 10:24 left in the  first half to tie the game at 2-2.  The Generals (2-1) then took the lead with 9:27 left in the half, when junior attackman Colin Dougherty (Timonium,  Md./ Loyola) scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Andrew Barnett  (Darien, Conn./ Darien).

The Generals scored the only two goals of the third quarter to open up a 5-2 lead.  Junior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, Md./ Towson) scored with 8:09 left in the quarter.  Sophomore midfielder Ben Lucas  (Glen Arm, Md./ Gilman) opened the W&L lead to 5-2, when he scored with 4:34 remaining in the quarter.  Dugan assisted on both goals.

Junior midfielder Greg Meyers (Riverside, Conn./ Greenwich) added  an insurance goal with 4:18 left in the game to give the Generals a 6-3  lead, as the Generals hung on to win, 6-4.

The Generals out-shot the Bullets, 27-21.

W&L sophomore goalkeeper Wes Hays (Towson, Md./ Loyola) had eight  saves on the day.
