LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Matt Dugan (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) amassed six goals and four assists, and junior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, Md./Towson) totaled six goals and three assists to help lead the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 26-4 victory over Cabrini College in the season-opener for both teams.
The Generals scored early and often, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead with 8:42 remaining in the opening quarter. Cabrini then came charging back, scoring two goals in a span of 13 seconds to cut the Generals (1-0) lead to 3-2.
W&L then scored 10 consecutive goals, four by Dugan and three by Brown, to post a 13-2 lead with 7:53 remaining in the first half. Cabrini (0-1) snapped the Generals streak when freshman midfielder Tom Lemieux (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Connsewogue) scored with 7:05 remaining in the half.
The Generals then went on another scoring streak, this time scoring 13 straight goals until the Cavaliers notched their fourth and final goal with 5:00 remaining in the game.
