Matt Eaker is entering his fourth year in the Washington and Lee University Athletics Communications Office. He served as Assistant Director of Athletics Communications for three years before being promoted to Associate Director prior to the 2026–27 academic year.
Eaker serves as the primary contact for football, volleyball, women’s basketball, track and field, men’s golf, and baseball. In addition to leading coverage for these programs, he supports statistical and game operations and oversees digital content initiatives for Washington and Lee’s 24 varsity sports.
During his tenure at W&L, Eaker has played key roles in hosting championship events, including the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Wrestling Championships and the regional and sectional rounds of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament. He has also contributed to NCAA postseason coverage for men’s soccer (Final Four, 2023), women’s volleyball (Elite Eight, 2024), and men’s golf (fourth-place finish, 2025). Eaker was also a member of the statistical operations team for the 2023 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, providing real-time statistics and data support for the ESPNU broadcast.
Eaker has helped elevate W&L’s communications strategy through innovation and leadership. He implemented department-wide tracking of social media and website analytics and oversees the development of video and graphic board content, enhancing the fan experience at home football, volleyball, and women’s basketball events.
At the national level, Eaker is an active and respected member of College Sports Communicators (CSC). He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Career Services Committee, is a National Review Team member for Academic All-America selections for the women’s volleyball and men’s at-large programs, and has served as a coordinator and judge for the CSC Creative and Digital Design Contest.
In addition to his service with CSC, Eaker serves as a voter for the D3football.com and D3hoops.com All-Region teams and is the ODAC representative for the Associated Press (AP) Division III Football All-America Committee.
Eaker was named to the CSC 30 Under 30 Class of 2025, an honor recognizing emerging athletics communications professionals across college athletics for excellence in strategic, creative, and digital communications. He also earned District 3 recognition in the Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest during the 2024-25 academic year, receiving first place in event coverage for his recap of W&L women’s volleyball’s Regional Championship win over Christopher Newport University, and second place in season preview writingor his football preview of Week 9 vs. Randolph-Macon.
Prior to his arrival in Lexington, Eaker spent two years as a graduate assistant in the Sports Information Office at North Central College, where he served as the primary contact for five sports. He helped host opening rounds of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament and coordinated the 2023 NCWWC Region IV Women’s Wrestling Championship. He also contributed on-site coverage for multiple NCAA championship events in football, wrestling, soccer, and lacrosse.
A native of Schaumburg, Illinois, Eaker earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management and a Master of Arts in Sports Leadership from North Central College.
