HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The No. 8 Washington and Lee offense stayed hot on Wednesday night, as the Generals scored twice in the second half to defeat Hampden-Sydney, 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (7-1, 2-0 ODAC) scored their first goal of the game in the seventh minute. An errant pass in the Hampden-Sydney (7-1-1, 1-1 ODAC) defensive third was collected by first-year Rowan Sellers, who spun around a defender and played a pass off to the right to senior Matthew Jenkins. Jenkins then slotted the ball past the keeper and inside the left post.
- The one-goal lead held until the 46th minute when Sellers blasted a shot from a tough angle on the right side that froze the H-SC goalie. The ball curved down and to the right and into the side netting for the 2-0 W&L lead.
- W&L got its final goal in the 61st minute on a corner kick. Sophomore Sami Seife played the cross into the box where senior Jack Travis ran in, unmarked, from the top of the box. Travis then hit a one-timed volley into the top-left corner of the frame.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Jenkins' opening goal was his first of the season, while Sellers tallied his team-high fourth of the season. Seife logged his team-best third assist of the year on Travis's second score this season.
- Jenkins led all players in the game with four shot attempts, three of which were on goal. Travis, Sellers and senior Spencer Furman each had three shot attempts.
- Owen Edwards and Mo Wumpini both took a Tigers-high two shots. Stig Larson made four saves in the H-SC goal.
- Junior Miles Furman totaled three saves to log his fifth shutout of the season. He is making saves at a 0.889 rate for the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Generals are now unbeaten in their last 17 games (15-0-2) against the Tigers and have won four straight on the Tigers' home field.
