8/18/2026 8:30:00 AM

LEXINGTON, Va. — Washington and Lee University has announced the hiring of Tucker Kindig as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and assistant men's and women's track and field coach. Kindig will work with student-athletes across the Generals' athletic programs while overseeing the development of W&L's throwing events.

Kindig joins Washington and Lee after serving as an assistant track and field coach for throws at Shenandoah University since August 2024. In that role, Kindig oversaw training, strength and conditioning and recruiting for the Hornets' throwing events.

During two seasons at Shenandoah, Kindig helped grow the throws group from two student-athletes to 10 while developing multiple All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference performers.

"We're extremely excited to welcome Tucker to Washington and Lee," said Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Dave Forman. "Throughout the search process, what really stood out was his background in organizational leadership, his commitment to developing both athletes and young professionals, and the genuine care he has for the people he coaches. Tucker will be a tremendous addition to our student-athletes and staff."

Kindig also brings extensive sports performance experience to Lexington after working at FASST Sports Performance in Winchester, Va., since 2021. As a sports performance coach, Kindig worked with athletes across a variety of sports and helped numerous athletes progress to collegiate competition at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels.

Kindig later added responsibilities as FASST's director of memberships, managing membership programs, staff scheduling and continuing education while overseeing sales and marketing efforts.

"The Washington and Lee women's track and field team is thrilled to welcome Tucker to our program," said Head Women's Track and Field Coach Dana Freeman. "Tucker's experience as a fellow conference coach and former conference student-athlete will serve him well as he mentors and continues to develop the outstanding group of throwers on the women's track and field team."

A former standout thrower at Shenandoah, Kindig competed for the Hornets from 2018-23 and concluded a decorated collegiate career as a three-time All-American. Kindig earned All-America honors in the hammer throw in 2022 and 2023 and the weight throw in 2023 while qualifying for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships during the final collegiate season.

Kindig captured three individual ODAC championships, winning the outdoor hammer throw in 2022 before claiming conference titles in the indoor weight throw and outdoor shot put in 2023. Additional honors included multiple U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region selections in the hammer throw, weight throw and shot put, along with multiple VaSID First Team All-State accolades.

"Tucker's experience competing at the national level will be valuable to our student-athletes who aspire to qualify for the NCAA Championships," said Head Men's Track and Field Coach Brandon Uhl. "His education and coaching experience, along with a strong desire to continue refining his coaching skills, will be an asset to our throws group. Tucker is personable and cares about people as much as performance, which will serve him well in recruiting and developing our student-athletes. We are excited about everything Tucker will bring to our program."

Kindig's collegiate accomplishments extended to the classroom. Academic honors included the 2022 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition, VaSID Academic All-State honors and First Team Academic All-District recognition.

Kindig earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Shenandoah in 2022, graduating magna cum laude, before completing a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership in 2024. Kindig earned the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential in August 2024.

"I look forward to joining Washington and Lee and contributing to programs that have established a tradition of success within the ODAC and NCAA Division III," said Kindig. "I'm excited to continue developing as a coach while helping our student-athletes reach their goals and contributing to the continued growth of both the track and field and strength and conditioning programs."

Kindig will begin duties in Lexington on September 1.
