7/31/2026 11:00:00 AM

LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee University Head Football Coach Garrett LeRose '07 has announced the hiring of Clay Denstorff as an assistant coach for the Generals' football program.

"We are excited to welcome Clay to Washington and Lee," said LeRose '07. "His experience as both a successful Division III student-athlete and coach, along with his passion for recruiting and developing young men, make him a tremendous addition to our program."

As Allegheny's recruiting coordinator, Denstorff organized official and unofficial campus visits, coordinated recruiting strategies across the coaching staff and identified and evaluated prospective student-athletes throughout multiple recruiting territories. He also mentored defensive linemen, emphasizing technical development, strength training, film study and game preparation while helping student-athletes grow in the classroom.

Prior to his promotion, Denstorff spent the 2024 season coaching Allegheny's outside linebackers. His responsibilities included assisting with the daily operations of the football program, coordinating recruiting efforts in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, scouting opponents, analyzing game film through Hudl and assisting with post game statistical analysis.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the staff at Washington and Lee," said Denstorff. "The tradition of excellence, commitment to the student-athlete experience and outstanding academic reputation make this a special place. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and helping build upon the program's success."

A 2023 graduate of Denison University, Denstorff earned a bachelor's degree in communication after a standout playing career with the Big Red. A two-time team captain, he was named Denison's Defensive Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. He also earned First Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in 2022 and 2023, Second Team All-NCAC recognition in 2021 and Second Team All-Region honors in 2022.

Denstorff begins his duties with the program on August 3rd.
