2026 Men's Golf NCAA Division III National Championship Preview

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University men’s golf team heads to Sunshine State for the 2026 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championships on May 12-15.

The Generals secured an at-large berth into the 43-team field which was announced by the NCAA on May 4th and head to Florida for the four-day championship event. 

The 72-hole NCAA championship includes 43 teams and 10 individuals competing in both team and individual formats. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on those teams to compete in the final two rounds.

This year’s National Championship is being held at Mission Resort + Spa in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, on May 12-15. The first two rounds will be played on the El Campeon and Las Colinas courses, but after 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on those teams to compete in the final two rounds, which will be played on the El Campeon course.

The Blue and White will kick off the tournament on the Las Colinas course at 7:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, starting on the tenth hole. First-year Reid Heaton will lead W&L off the tee first, followed by first-year William Hull, sophomore Charlie Krasnewich, sophomore Tim Kaufman, and junior Jonathan McEwen.

El Campeon is a par 72 course that will play at 6,778 yards in Rounds 1 and 2. The front nine features a par 5 on hole one at 505 yards followed by a 176-yard par 3. Following four straight par 4s, teams will play a 145-yard par 3 (hole 8) and a 353-yard par 4 before making the turn to the back nine. The back nine features three par 5s that range from 530 to 550 yards while also including a pair of par 3s that will play at 205 yards (hole 12) and 142 yards (hole 15).

Las Colinas, the tournament’s second course, is a par 71 that will play at 6,820 yards in the opening rounds. The front nine features one par 5 on hole 5, while three of the first four holes are par 4s. The tournament field will make the turn after three straight par 4s. The back nine is highlighted by a pair of par 5s, including the 561-yard 18th hole, along with five par 4s and two par 3s.

The weather forecast for the four-day tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills calls for  sunny conditions with the temperature ranging from 86 to 91 degrees while the real feel temperature could reach up to 98 degrees. Tuesday’s opening round is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 86 degrees with eight mph winds out of the northeast. The conditions will remain similar for Wendesday with the high being 87 degrees and sunny with an expected six mph win out of the southeast. Thursday and Friday will be the hottest days of the week. Thursday will peak at 89 degrees with a real feel of 98 with six mph winds out of the northwest while Friday’s high is 91 degrees with winds out of the northwest at 4 mph.

Junior Jonathan McEwen

Jonathan McEwen is having another incredible season with the Blue and White. The No. 1-ranked Golfer in Division III since March 26th, 2025, has reeled a handful honors this season including the ODAC Player of the Year, First Team All-ODAC while being named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List. In addition, McEwen was selected to represent Team USA at the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup in West Barrow, Ireland on July 3-5, becoming the fourth Division III student-athlete to be selected to the prestigious event.

This season, McEwen has posted three wins including a second-straight win at the ODAC Championships at Poplar Grove Golf Club. He holds a 68.4 scoring average in 24 rounds played with a 757-20-13 overall record while finishing in the top-five in seven of the team's eight events. McEwen secured a win at 13-under par at the Savannah Invitational which is the second-best 54 Hole total in program history while breaking his own program record with a 14-under performance at the Jekyll Island Collegiate where he finished second. This season, McEwen has set program records in Low Round (64), Low Round vs. Par (-8), Low 54 Hole Total (-14) while ranking second in wins with three.

Sophomore Tim Kaufman

Tim Kaufman, the 11th-ranked Golfer in Division III, is making his second appearance in the Generals' NCAA Lineup. This season, Kaufman holds a 70.3 scoring average in 24 rounds with a 673-91-26 record while securing his first career win at the Capitol City Classic on April 7. He has finished four tournaments this season under par including a five-under performance at the Jekyll Island Collegiate and the Savannah Invitational. 

He garnered First Team All-ODAC honors and was named to the PING All-Region IV Team while being named the ODAC Golfer of the Week following his win in Alabama. 

Charlie Krasnewich

Sophomore Charlie Krasnewich

Charlie Krasnewich has had a strong spring season, making his second appearance at the National Championship. This season, Krasnewich has posted a 423-341-26 record with a 72.7 scoring average in 23 rounds played. He finished in the top-ten twice, finishing sixth at the Tiger Invitational with a score of three-under par and a 10th place finish at the Jekyll Island Collegiate at eight-under par. He turned in a T-12th place finish at the ODAC Championship on April 21st while garnering Second Team All-ODAC honors.

William Hull

First-Year William Hull

William Hull will play at his first National Championship this week, being apart of the starting lineup for seven tournaments this season. He holds a scoring average of 74.9 in 23 rounds played while posting a top-30 finish at the Savannah Invitational, finishing in 26th place with a score of three-over par. 

Reid Heaton

First-Year Reid Heaton

Reid Heaton is making his second start of his career while playing at his first National Championship. He holds a 75.8 scoring average in eight rounds played this season, finishing in a T-72nd place at the Capital City Classic. During the fall portion of the season, Heaton turned in a sixth place finish at the 76th VSGA Intercollegiate Championship with a score of nine-over par.

National Championship Field

Two-time Defending National Champions, No. 5 Methodist University highlights a deep and balanced field. Methodist alongside 33 other teams earned Automatic Bids to the National Championship while No. 1 Huntingdon, No. 4 Carnegie Mellon, No. 6 Emory, No. 10 Oglethorpe, No. 12 Kenyon, No. 15 Trinity (Texas), No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus and No. 23 Babson joined W&L as at-large bids to the tournament. 31st-ranked Guilford College earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) automatic qualifier after securing their 20th league title and will be the only team to join W&L at the National Championships. University of Lynchburg's Alan Van Asch earned a bid to play as an individual alongside nine other golfers from across the country.
