Men's Track & Field Finishes Third at ODAC Outdoor Championship

HARRISONBURG,Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team finished in third place at the 2026 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championhip on Saturday while Macky Gartley and George Mann both won titles in their respective events.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals finished third at the outdoor meet, scoring 105 points across the two-day meet. W&L won a pair of events with six All-ODAC performances. The University of Lynchburg hoisted the title, scoring 249 points while Roanoke finished in second with 137. Bridgewater (100) and Eastern Mennonite (57) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
  • George Mann and Macky Gartley highlighted the second day of action as they both claimed individual titles in their respective events. Mann won his second javelin title on Saturday after registering a toss of 57.34m (188'-01.00"). His win marks the the fifth-straight year that a General has reigned victorious in the event. Gartley secured the first title in the 110m hurdles since 1993 where David Phillips earned gold. Gartley clocked in a time of 14.98s to claim gold in the event and earn First Team All-ODAC honors.
  • Brandon Makowski and Troy Spillman joined Mann in the javelin, finishing in third and fourth place. Makowski recorded a personal best toss of 51.01m (170'-07.00") to earn a podium finish while Spillman finished in fourth with a personal best mark of 49.70m (163'-00.00"). 
  • Evan Langhammer and Lukas Michael both turned in top-eight finishes in the pole vault this afternoon. Langhammer earned a runner-up finish after clearing a height of 4.55m (14'-11.00") while Michael finished in seventh place with a personal best mark of 4.10m (13'-05.25").
  • In the discus, the Blue and White had a pair of top-eight finishers as Leo Avigliano and Maddox Noll finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place. Avigliano finished in fifth with a mark of 40.90m (134'-02.00") while Noll recorded a mark of 40.50m (132'-10.00") to finish in sixth.
  • Ethan De Fonseka, Mark Freeman, Connor LaCour and Mason Mandis turned in a seventh place finish in the 4x100m relay, clocking in a time of 43.00s. Keaton Rush was W&L top finisher in the 1,500m as he finished fourth with a personal best time of 3:57.69. Mark Freeman punched his ticket to the 100m finals yesterday and clocked in a time of 10.92s to finish in sixth place overall.
  • Jaden Brighter was the top finisher for the Blue and White in the 800m, clocking in a personal best time of 1:57.31. Gartley, John Daniels and Danny Jakubowski-Lewis all competed in the finals in the 400m hurdles. Gartley finished in second place with a time of 53.65s to earn a podium finish. Jakubowksi-Lewis finished in fifth place with a season-best time of 55.85s while Daniels rounded out the trio with a seventh place finish, clocking in a time of 56.88s.
  • Sam Daunt and Colin Verrett both competed in the 5,000m this afternoon with Daunt leading the duo with a third place finish, clocking in a personal best time of 14:46.22, the fifth-fastest time in program history. Verrett finished in eighth place with a time of 15:30.47. 
  • Schuyler Clark, Ethan De Fonseka, Danny Jakubowski-Lewis and Connor LaCour rounded out the meet with a fifth place finish in the 4x400m relay after crossing the finish line in a time of 3:26.10.
