Men’s Track & Field Registers Three Top-Five Updates on Final Day of W&L Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team posted three updates to the program's top-five list on the final day of the W&L Carnival on Saturday. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Macky Gartley highlighted the final day of action as he posted a pair of updates to the record books while finishing first in both of his events. Gartley started the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.33s, the second-fastest time in program history. Later in the meet, he cruised to another top finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.94s, which ranks No. 3 all-time in program history.
  • Fidel Small provided the third update to the record book as he posted the second-best mark in program history in the triple jump. Small earned gold in the event after recording a personal-best mark of 13.71m (44'-11.75"). George Mann registered the final win of the day as he earned first place in the javelin with a mark of 55.85m (183'-03.00").
  • Danny Jakubowski-Lewis and John Daniels joined Gartley in the 400m hurdles, both finishing in the top five. Jakubowski-Lewis finished in fourth place with a time of 56.74s, while Daniels finished in fifth place with a time of 56.75s. Connor LaCour turned in a second-place finish in the 400m after clocking a time of 49.36s.
  • The Blue and White had three student-athletes finish in the top eight in the 800m, with Andrew Carroll pacing the way with a second-place finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:55.62. Davis Amare posted a personal-best time of 1:58.62 to finish in fourth, while John Hogan clocked a time of 1:58.87 to finish in sixth place.
  • Evan Langhammer was the top finisher for the Generals in the pole vault, finishing in a tie for second place with a mark of 4.49m (14'-08.75"). Brandon Makowski joined Mann in the javelin, finishing in fifth place with a mark of 49.46m (162'-03.00"). Leo Avigliano rounded out the top-eight finishers with a second-place finish in the discus, registering a toss of 44.34m (145'-05.00").
PERSONAL BESTS TOP EIGHT FINISHERS TOP FIVE UPDATES UP NEXT
  • The Generals will split up next weekend as members of the team will travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays while the rest of the squad will travel to Bridgewater College for the Doc Jopson Invite on March 27-28.
