LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team snapped its losing streak on Tuesday in the first ODAC match of the spring season with a 5-2 win at Lynchburg.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Sanjheev Rao and first-year Todd Cannaliato got the Generals (4-7, 3-0 ODAC) off on the right foot with a 6-0 win at No. 2, before sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Pearce Lane secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
- The Hornets (5-3, 1-2 ODAC) picked up a doubles win at No. 1, as Ricards Spaks and Nicholas Pierreux topped junior Heys Parker and first-year Henry Imorde, 6-3.
- Arora claimed the first singles point for the Generals, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4, but Spaks got the Hornets on the board at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Parker. Lane then upended Alexandre Gaboardi, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3, before Pierreux kept the match score within one with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2.
- Rao clinched the match for the Generals with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Alvaro Quiroga Amaya at No. 6, before Imorde closed out the 5-2 win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Generals picked up their first ODAC win of the spring season, improving to 3-0 in conference play.
- Imorde's win at No. 5 singles was his first of the season in just his second start in the singles lineup.
