Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 33 W&L falls against No. 28 N.C. Wesleyan

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 33 Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 final against No. 28 North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday at Boar's Head Resort.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The doubles point was up for grabs after the teams split the first two matches. Junior Heys Parker and first-year Henry Imorde won at No. 1, 7-5, while Farhaan Patrawala and Albert Sitwell were 6-2 victors at No. 2.
  • Sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Pearce Lane outlasted Brody Brice and Largo Koch, 7-6 (6), at No. 3 to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 W&L (4-8) lead heading into singles.
  • Junior Sanjheev Rao picked up the lone win for the Generals in singles play in a 6-2, 6-2 final at No. 6 against Rafhael Gastelu.
  • Parker and Imorde played into a third set each before ultimately falling. Sitwell topped Parker at No. 1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, with Ben Russell getting a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Imorde at No. 4.
  • The Battling Bishops secured straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 5 to complete the results. Patrawala edged Lane in a tight battle at No. 3, 7-5, 7-6 (7), with Adam Singleton (6-3, 6-3) and Martin Cardestig (6-3, 6-0) rounding out the N.C. Wesleyan wins at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rao's win at No. 6 singles boosted his overall singles record this season to 8-6. He is also 6-4 at No. 6 and 7-5 overall in dual-match format.
  • Parker's match at No. 1 was his second this season against a ranked opponent, as Sitwell sits at No. 45 in the national rankings and No. 10 in the Atlantic South region.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be back on the Boar's Head Resort courts on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. when they take on No. 17 Carnegie Mellon.
