LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University men's and women's swimming teams head to the Greensboro Aquatic Center this week looking to secure a fourth consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship. The four-day meet begins Wednesday, Feb. 11, and runs through Saturday.
The Generals enter the championship meet as the defending conference champions on both sides. Last season, the women captured their 33rd ODAC title with 868.5 points and victories in 10 events, while the men earned their ninth conference crown after scoring 942 points and winning 12 events across the four-day meet.
Wednesday: 800 Free Relay (7:30 p.m.)
Competition opens with the 800 freestyle relay, where W&L holds commanding leads on both sides.
- Women's 800 Free Relay | Washington and Lee enters the postseason with the ODAC's top time after recording a 7:51.72 at the D3 Shootout, more than four seconds faster than the next closest conference competitor.
- Men's 800 Free Relay | The Generals own the ODAC's fastest time this season after clocking a 6:46.60 at the Arena Yellow Jacket Invitational, opening a commanding gap of nearly 20 seconds over the rest of the conference.
Thursday: Sprints and Relays
Thursday's action begins at 10 a.m. with the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle, followed by finals in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
- Women's 500 Free | Celia Bredehoeft leads six Generals ranked inside the ODAC top 10, joined by Julia Connor, Marcy Mortimer, Riley Moorman, Katie Crawford, and Schuyler Ross.
- Men's 500 Free | Dalton Jobe's ODAC-leading 4:34.08 anchors a group that also includes Jackson Hall, Lucas Chacon, and Patrick Murphy in the top eight.
- Women's 200 IM | Maria Jellig and Marcy Mortimer hold the ODAC's top two times, with Sophia Brame-Goldthwaite, Gabby Clemens, and Paige McBoyle also ranked inside the top nine.
- Men's 200 IM | Jobe headlines a six-swimmer W&L group in the ODAC top nine, joined by Zane Ross, Thomas Denton, Carter Whetstine, Harrison Cerone, and John Ramos.
- Women's 50 Free | Amelia Maloof leads W&L's sprint group, with Frances Fenton and Tenra Adams also ranked inside the ODAC top 10.
- Men's 50 Free | Leighton Chapman's conference-best 20.69 sets the tone, supported by Charles Byars, Dylan Reher, and Thomas Denton in the top 10.
- Women's 200 Free Relay | Washington and Lee enters as the ODAC leader at 1:37.44.
- Men's 200 Free Relay | The Generals sit second at 1:23.30, just eight-hundredths off the conference lead.
- Women's 400 Medley Relay | W&L owns the top ODAC time at 3:53.52, nearly five seconds clear.
- Men's 400 Medley Relay | Washington and Lee ranks second at 3:22.09, less than a second behind the leader.
Friday
Friday features the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, capped by the 200 medley relay finals.
- Women's 400 IM | Maria Jellig leads six Generals ranked inside the ODAC top nine, alongside Marcy Mortimer, Celia Bredehoeft, Sophia Brame-Goldthwaite, Katie Crawford, and Meagan Baxley.
- Men's 400 IM | Patrick Murphy's ODAC-best 4:09.17 headlines a group that includes Lucas Chacon, Jackson Hall, and Carter Whetstine in the top 10.
- Women's 100 Fly | Jellig sits atop the ODAC, joined in the top 10 by Peighton Kruzel, Virginia Lathrop, Eme Monackey, Keener Witmer, and another Generals entry.
- Men's 100 Fly | Zane Ross leads the conference, with Thomas Denton and Dylan Reher also ranked inside the top 10.
- Women's 200 Free | Riley Moorman anchors a group of eight Generals in the ODAC top 10, including Maria Jellig, Gabby Clemens, Julia Connor, Tenra Adams, Celia Bredehoeft, Ruth Crane, and Marcy Mortimer.
- Men's 200 Free | Dalton Jobe's 1:38.85 leads six W&L swimmers ranked inside the top 10, joined by Leighton Chapman, Thomas Denton, Charles Byars, Lucas Chacon, and Jackson Brooks.
- Women's 100 Back | Maria Jellig ranks second overall, with Vivian Pickeral and Cameron Schwartz also inside the ODAC top 10.
- Men's 100 Back | Charles Byars leads W&L's backstroke group, joined by Carter Whetstine and Cooper Tinsley in the top eight.
- Women's 100 Breast | Frances Fenton sits second in the ODAC, with Morgan Smith, Amelia Macholz, and Paige McBoyle also ranked inside the top seven.
- Men's 100 Breast | Harrison Cerone ranks second overall, with Dalton Jobe also inside the ODAC top five.
- Women's 200 Medley Relay | Washington and Lee leads the ODAC at 1:47.37.
- Men's 200 Medley Relay | The Generals sit second at 1:31.10, within half a second of the conference lead.
Saturday: Distance, Speed and the Finale
The final day includes the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay.
- Women's 1650 Free | Celia Bredehoeft leads the ODAC with the conference's fastest time, joined by Julia Connor and Katie Crawford in the top five.
- Men's 1650 Free | Lucas Chacon and Jackson Brooks both rank inside the ODAC top eight.
- Women's 200 Back | Maria Jellig's ODAC-best 2:02.80 leads five Generals ranked inside the top 10, including Vivian Pickeral, Sophia Brame-Goldthwaite, Bella Malchow, and Cameron Schwartz.
- Men's 200 Back | Carter Whetstine anchors the Generals, joined by Charles Byars and Thomas Denton in the top 10.
- Women's 100 Free | Amelia Maloof leads six Generals inside the ODAC top 10, including Tenra Adams, Marcy Mortimer, Grace Bentley, Ruth Crane, and Claire Ballard.
- Men's 100 Free | W&L owns the top two times behind Leighton Chapman and Dalton Jobe, with Charles Byars, Thomas Denton, and William Gordon also ranked in the top 10.
- Women's 200 Fly | Maria Jellig leads a dominant W&L group with Peighton Kruzel, Eme Monackey, Marcy Mortimer, Meagan Baxley, Camlyn Belle, and Virginia Lathrop all inside the ODAC top 10.
- Men's 200 Fly | Zane Ross' conference-best 1:51.90 leads the way, with Cooper Tinsley and Noah Ramos adding depth.
- Women's 400 Free Relay | Washington and Lee enters with the ODAC's fastest time at 3:31.83.
- Men's 400 Free Relay | The Generals close the meet as the ODAC leader at 3:00.92.
The four-day ODAC Swimming Championships begin Wednesday evening at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and run through Saturday. Washington and Lee enters the meet as the defending conference champion on both the men's and women's sides, with early momentum expected in the opening relays and key scoring events throughout the week.
