LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University wrestling team travels to Ada, Ohio, this weekend for the 2026 NCAA Division III Region IV Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.

The two-day, double-elimination tournament begins Friday, Feb. 27, with the top three finishers in each weight class earning automatic bids to the NCAA Division III National Championships, set for March 13–14 in La Crosse, Wis.

Region IV Landscape

Region IV remains one of the deepest regions in Division III wrestling. Participating programs include nationally ranked powers No. 2 Roanoke College and No. 8 Baldwin Wallace, alongside Ohio Northern, Mount Union, Otterbein, Averett, Washington & Jefferson, and others.

Washington and Lee placed fourth at last year’s regional championships with 139.0 team points and qualified four wrestlers for nationals — the most for the program since 1978.

The bracket includes multiple returning All-Americans in:

  • Andrew Supers (Baldwin Wallace, 165)
  • Joseph Petrella (Baldwin Wallace, 197)
  • Mac Cafurello (Roanoke, 125)

Roanoke leads the regional rankings with four No. 1 seeds (125, 133, 141, 149), while Baldwin Wallace and Ohio Northern add additional nationally competitive depth.

Washington and Lee enters the weekend with seven wrestlers ranked in the top four of their respective weight classes and two holding No. 1 regional rankings.

GENERALS LINEUP

  • 133 | Vincent Ziccardi (No. 3 Regionally / ODAC Champion)
    • Ziccardi captured the conference title with a technical fall and two decision victories. He will look to carry that controlled, positional style into a deep 133-pound regional bracket.
    • Ziccardi enters ranked third behind Jude Robson (Roanoke) and Chase Vanderhorst (Ohio Northern). A returning national qualifier, Ziccardi has proven he can navigate the backside of the bracket and will look to secure another NCAA berth.

  • 141 | Skyler Hickman (No. 2 Regionally / ODAC Champion)
    • Hickman secured his title with a tech fall, major decision and championship bout victory. His bonus-point ability makes him a key contender in the regional field.
    • Hickman sits second behind defending regional champion Mark Samuel (Roanoke). With Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace also fielding top-four competitors, 141 features four legitimate qualifying threats. Hickman’s consistency and pace position him squarely in the qualification mix.

  • 149 | Evan Lindner (No. 5 Regionally / ODAC Champion)
    • Lindner posted two falls and a sudden-victory win in the ODAC finals. His ability to finish matches early could prove pivotal in the championship bracket.
    • Despite entering as the fifth seed, Lindner is a two-time NCAA qualifier and reigning ODAC Champion. The weight is led by Taylor Smith (Roanoke), but Lindner’s postseason experience makes him a dangerous bracket opponent capable of climbing into the top three.

  • 157 | Liam Flanagan (No. 1 Regionally / ODAC Champion)
    • Flanagan recorded two technical falls and a sudden-victory title win at ODACs. His pace and conditioning have been defining traits throughout the season.
    • Flanagan headlines the bracket as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in Region IV, ahead of Roanoke’s Casey Smith and Wilmington’s Thane McCoy. The sophomore has been a breakout performer and carries strong momentum entering the tournament.

  • 165 | Mark Troni (N o. 4 Regionally / ODAC Runner-Up)
    • Troni earned Second-Team All-ODAC honors and brings strong upper-body offense and bonus-point potential into the regional tournament.
    • This bracket includes returning All-American Andrew Supers (Baldwin Wallace) at the top spot. Troni, ranked fourth, qualified for nationals last year and has proven capable of winning tight postseason matches. The weight class also features nationally competitive freshmen from Roanoke and Mount Union.

  • 174 | Jacob Wright (No. 6 Regionally / ODAC Runner-Up)
    • Wright advanced to the conference finals with a major decision and sudden-victory semifinal. His composure in close matches will be critical in the double-elimination format.
    • Wright enters fourth in a bracket led by Xavier Preston (Roanoke) and Thomas West (Baldwin Wallace). With multiple seniors and experienced contenders in the top six, advancement positioning will be critical.

  • 184 | Devin Sweeney
    • The weight is led by Vitali Daniels (Washington & Jefferson) and features strong depth from Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace.  Jack McCusker '25 qualified for nationals last season and the rookie, Devin Sweeney, looks to replicate the Generals' past success in the 184 class.

  • 197 | John Santowski (No. 2 Regionally / ODAC Runner-Up)
    • Santowski reached the conference finals with a fall and semifinal decision. His defensive discipline and late-match control make him a dangerous postseason competitor.
    • Santowski enters as the No. 2 ranked wrestler behind Lorenzo Pellot-Vazquez (Roanoke). Returning All-American Joseph Petrella (Baldwin Wallace) sits fourth, making 197 one of the most talent-heavy brackets. Santowski, a two-time ODAC Champion, narrowly missed qualification last year and enters with unfinished business.

  • 285 | Carter Stack (No. 1 Regionally / ODAC Champion)
    • Stack claimed the heavyweight title with a semifinal fall and a dominant major decision in the finals. His physicality and top control position him as a strong regional contender.
    • Stack headlines the heavyweight division as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in Region IV, ahead of Baldwin Wallace and Mount Union contenders. The defending ODAC Champion is positioned strongly to secure his first NCAA qualification after just missing out last season.
