KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Washington and Lee University baseball team dropped their first game of the D3 Showcase at the Atrium Health Ballpark as they fell to Berry College (Ga.) 11-1 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both offenses were held in check through the first three innings until Berry (5-0) broke through with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Chance Edmonds singled and stole second to move into scoring position before coming home on a Garrett Lang single to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
- Lang then stole third and scored on a throwing error. Riley Uhls drove in the third run with a single, and Austin Jetmore doubled to right field to plate Uhls from first, giving Berry a four-run advantage.
- The Vikings added five more runs in the fifth. After Xavier Byams was caught stealing, a walk and two consecutive hit-by-pitches loaded the bases. Lang and Tanaka Mukono were then hit by pitches in back-to-back plate appearances, forcing in two runs to extend the lead to seven. Uhls followed with an RBI single to score Lang, and Mukono later came home on a Generals throwing error.
- Berry tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Uhls reached on an error, and Preston Dean drew a walk to put two runners on. Both eventually scored on two straight errors to give the Vikings an 11-0 lead.
- The Generals (1-3) scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Jackson Rogish was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Jonathan French single. French stole second to put two runners in scoring position, and Rogish scored on a ground out to make it 11-1.
W&L GAME NOTES
- The Generals fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss, dropping their second-straight game to the Vikings.
- Alex and Nick Caywood led the Generals' offense with two hits each while A. Caywood had the lone extra base hit with a double. Nathan DeWitte registered Henry Steene (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out four batters.
BERRY GAME NOTES
- Berry picked up their fifth-straight win to open up the 2026 campaign, improving to 5-0 on the season.
- Riley Uhls led the Vikings' offense with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with two RBI. Garrett Lang, Austin Jetmore, Xavier Byams and Chance Edmonds each had a hit in the win while Lang and Jetmore both drove in a pair of runs.
- Blythe Keisler (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after pitching five shutout innings, only allowing five hits while striking out five batters.

- The Generals are back in action for the final game of the D3 Showcase as they will take on Piedmont University at 1 p.m.
