Men’s Track & Field Secures Three First Place Finishes at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic

PENN LAIRD, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team secured three first place finishes at the Rockingham Collegiate Classic on Friday afternoon at the Edwatd S. Long Jr. Track Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Macky Gartley turned in a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles, leading the prelims with a time of 8.14s before clocking a personal-best time of 8.09s, which improves his program record mark. Gartley also competed in the 200m dash, finishing fourth with a personal-best time of 22.85s. John Daniels competed alongside him in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 8.83s in the prelims before clocking a personal-best time of 8.78s to finish in fifth place.
  • Four Generals finished within the top four in the mile, with Keaton Rush finishing in first place with a personal-best time of 4:20.70. Robert Cooper followed closely behind with a personal-best time of 4:23.76, while Sam Daunt finished fourth with a time of 4:24.27, a new personal best. John Hogan rounded out the quartet with a seventh-place finish, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 4:32.42.
  • Connor LaCour and Javan Hirwa both competed in the 400m this afternoon, with LaCour securing the third first-place finish for the Blue and White, crossing the finish line in a time of 50.72s. Hirwa clocked a season-best time of 54.44s to finish in seventh place.
  • In the 800m, Davis Amare finished in fourth place after clocking a personal-best time of 2:00.19. Will DeLoach followed in sixth place with a personal-best time of 2:00.49.
  • David Akinnubi was the lone General in the high jump on Friday, finishing in fifth place after clearing a height of 1.90m (6'-02.75"). Mason Mandis turned in a second-place finish in the long jump after leaping 6.54m (21'-05.25").
  • Ezekiel Mullins registered a new personal best in the shot put this afternoon after recording a mark of 12.85m (41'-01.75"). Charlie Strobach and Lukas Michael both finished in the top eight in the pole vault. Strobach finished in sixth place after clearing a height of 3.90m (12'-09.50"), while Michael recorded a mark of 3.75m (12'-03.50") to finish in eighth place.

  • The postseason begins next weekend as the Generals will head to Salem, Va. for the ODAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
