Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

W&L offense comes alive in second half for big win over Regent

LEXINGTON, Va. – A six-goal second half highlighted the Washington and Lee men's soccer team's 7-0 win against Regent on Saturday afternoon to kick-off a four-game homestand.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It took the Generals (1-2-3) just over two minutes to get their first tally. Junior Matthew Jenkins took a shot from just right of center at the top of the 18, but his shot was saved. Sophomore Ricardo Sanchez followed the play through and tapped in the loose ball rebound for the goal.
  • The first of six second-half goals came in the 53rd minute when Sanchez assisted senior Buster Couhig to double the lead.
  • In the 72nd minute, first-year Sami Seife assisted classmate Kaden Zion on Zion's first collegiate goal. That preceded another Seife assist to first-year Mac Couhig in the 75th minute to run the W&L lead to 4-0.
  • The Generals continued their offensive onslaught with three goals in the final 7:36 to cap off the win. Junior Brad Dulin scored unassisted in the 83rd minute, junior Nati Seife assisted first-year Jonny Costello in the 88th minute and sophomore Hayden Landis found Nati Seife in the 89th minute for the game's final goal.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sanchez and the Seife brothers all led the offense by accounting for two goals apiece. Sanchez and Nati Seife finished with a goal and assist each, with Sami Seife at two assists.
  • The Couhig brothers also both got on the scoresheet. Buster scored his second goal of the season while Mac netted his first collegiate goal.
  • Jenkins (1a), Dulin (1g) and Landis (1a) also each got their first points of the season in the win.
  • Senior goalkeeper Will Joseph earned the win and posted his 24th career shutout after stopping the only shot on goal by Regent.
  • Regent goalkeeper Connor Henriques, despite the seven goals allowed, made 11 saves in the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Joseph's 24th career shutout ties him with Michael Nyc '22 for the most clean sheets in program history.
  • The Generals' 7-0 win on Saturday marked their largest win since a 9-0 thrashing of Bridgewater on October 18, 2023. The six goals scored in Saturday's second half are also the most in a half for the program since that same game when the Blue and White scored eight in the second half against the Eagles.
TEAM STATS:
  • The Generals ended the game with a 41-1 shot advantage, going 19-1 in the first half and 22-0 in the second.
  • There were seven corner kicks taken in the game, all by the Generals.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday when they host Roanoke at 7:00 p.m. That game has been designated as a non-conference contest and will not count towards the ODAC standings.
