ATLANTA – A goal inside the final four minutes of regulation set the No. 4 Washington and Lee men's soccer team back against Emory on Friday, 1-0, on the first of two days of the Sonny Carter Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game's lone goal came with 3:35 left in regulation when Josh Grand swung in a corner kick where Logan Steren headed it into the back of the net.
- The Generals (0-1) started slow, but they managed to put together several scoring chances. Their first chance came when sophomore Ayush Kataria laid out to connect on a header in the 33rd minute, but his shot went wide left.
- W&L kept the pressure on before junior Trian Kechagias made the Eagles (1-0) sweat even more with a shot 41 seconds later, but Geoffrey Halpern was there for the save.
- Perhaps the closest opportunity came in the 68th minute during a scrum in the Emory box. The ball made its way to senior Buster Couhig who tried a one-timed shot, but it banged off the crossbar.
