BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The No. 11 Washington and Lee women's cross country team opened its 2025 campaign with a statement victory on Friday evening, winning the Eagle Cross Country Challenge hosted by Bridgewater College. The Generals repeated as team 4k champions with 20 points — 10 fewer than their winning total at the same meet last fall — while Bridgewater and Shenandoah rounded out the top three.

Bridgewater's Olivia Morra captured the individual title in 15:21.8, but W&L packed seven runners into the top eight to secure the team crown. First-years Adelaide Ellis (2nd, 15:29.9), Maddy Morgan (3rd, 15:31.9), Claire Dumont (4th, 15:34.4), and Amelia Weenig (5th, 15:36.1) led the way in their collegiate debuts, followed by senior Eve Spencer (6th, 15:39.7), sophomore Mary Gorsky (7th, 15:46.3), and first-year Josie Engle (8th, 15:47.4).

The performance gives 12th-year head coach Mike Dager's squad its second straight team crown at Bridgewater and early momentum. The Generals return to action on Friday, Sept. 5, at the Virginia Tech Invitational at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg; the women's 4k is slated for a 6 p.m. start time.
