GREENWOOD, Ind. – The 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-America Men's At-Large teams were announced on Wednesday, and Washington and Lee's Hillis Burns and Tyler Spano received the prestigious accolade.

Burns and Spano become the first two student-athletes in Washington and Lee men's lacrosse program history to earn the distinction of CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American. They both made the second team in CSC's At-Large category.

Burns closed out a stellar career in the Blue and White with a team-leading 72 points on 41 goals and a team-best 31 assists this season. Burns received three Preseason All-America citations, and has collected two postseason All-America honors, for his strong season that landed him on the All-ODAC First Team. With a third consecutive 70-point season, Burns finished third in program history in career points (248), sixth in goals (152) and ninth in assists (96).

Off the field, Burns graduated as a business administration and mathematics double-major. He earned W&L Scholar Athlete status in all eight terms, was a 2023 VaSID Academic All-State selection and was the 2025 ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Burns also received the LK Johnson Rosasco scholarship as a junior and senior at W&L.

Spano, this season's USILA Division III Face-off Player of the Year, established himself as one of the top face-off specialists in the country this season by winning 298-of-411 face-offs to rank fifth in Division III in face-off percentage (.725). He finished just three face-off wins shy of breaking his own program record for draws won in a season, while recording the fourth-best single-season percentage in program history. Spano also added 10 points on the offensive end this season on six goals and four assists after earning USILA All-America Honorable Mention last season.

Also a standout student, Spano picked up four W&L Scholar Athlete citations while in Lexington and two ODAC All-Academic Team honors.

The Generals posted a 17-4 overall record this season, the second-most wins in a season in program history, while winning their 13th ODAC Tournament title and making an NCAA Championship Round of 16 appearance for the third straight year.
