Men’s Swimming Garners Four CSC Academic All-District Citations

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Four members of the Washington and Lee University men's swimming team were named College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections for their athletic and academic achievements, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The CSC (formerly CoSIDA) recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes are eligible for this award by maintaining a 3.50 grade point average or better while competing in four meets or finishing within the top-eight at their conference meet. This award is nominated and voted upon by members of CSC.

Senior Matt Fritz, a business administration and computer science double major, was named a CSC Academic All-District honoree for the third consecutive year. Fritz holds a 3.86 GPA and is a two-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a seven-time W&L Scholar-Athlete, and a two-time Academic All-ODAC selection.

In the pool, Fritz is a four-time First Team All-ODAC selection, a four-time ODAC Swimmer of the Week honoree, and has earned nine First Team All-State citations from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). He is a two-time All-American in the 100 butterfly, earning First Team honors this season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA National Championships. He holds the program record in the 100 butterfly and ranks second in the 200 individual medley, third in the 200 backstroke, and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Fritz is also a member of W&L's program-record 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay teams.


Senior Luke Nagel earned his third Academic All-District honor of his career. The engineering major boasts a 3.90 GPA and is a six-time W&L Scholar-Athlete, a three-time Academic All-ODAC selection, and a two-time President's List honoree. He concluded his swimming career as a four-time First Team All-ODAC selection after earning three podium finishes at the 2024 ODAC Championships. Nagel placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:38.21) and third in both the 100 freestyle (45.19) and 500 freestyle (4:32.92). A six-time ODAC Champion, he qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships for the second straight season, earning a pair of All-America honors: Second Team in the 200 freestyle (14th place) and First Team in the 800 freestyle relay (4th place).


Junior Dalton Jobe was named a CSC Academic All-District honoree for the first time in his career. An accounting major, Jobe is a three-time W&L Scholar-Athlete and was selected to the Academic All-ODAC Team in 2024. In the pool, Jobe is a three-time First Team All-American and a four-time Second Team All-American. He was named the 2023–24 VaSID Swimmer of the Year and ODAC Rookie of the Meet. This season, he earned First Team All-America honors with a national title in the 200 freestyle and also claimed ODAC championships in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. A three-time First Team All-ODAC selection and 12-time ODAC Champion, Jobe has been named ODAC Swimmer of the Week 13 times. He holds three individual program records—in the 200 and 400 individual medley and the 500 freestyle—and is also part of the program-record 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams.


Harrison Cerone, an economics and politics double major, earned his second career CSC Academic All-District honor. Cerone is a five-time W&L Scholar-Athlete and was named to the Academic All-ODAC Team in 2024. In the pool, he is a two-time All-ODAC selection, earning First Team honors in 2024 and Second Team recognition this season. He also earned First Team VaSID All-State honors in both the 200 and 400 medley relays and Second Team recognition in the breaststroke. This season, he placed third in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 medley relay.


Fritz, Jobe and Nagel were selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 23.
