Men’s Swimming Finishes 19th at NCAA Championships, 400 Free Relay Earns All-America Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team turned in a 19th finish at the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships while the 400 freestyle relay team earned Second Team All-American honors.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The men's team secured 75 points across the four day meet to finish in 19th place, their highest finish since 2018 where they finished 13th. The 75 points marked the most points since 2008 where they scored 143 points en route to an eighth place finish.
  • Leighton Chapman, Dalton Jobe, Charles Byars and Luke Nagel teamed up for the final time during the 2024-25 season in the 400 freestyle relay. The squad clocked in the tenth-fastest time in the field with a time of 2:58.40 to secure Second Team All-American honors.
  • Leighton Chapman also competed as an individual in the 100 freestyle during the morning session, clocking in a time of 45.15s to finish in 31st place overall. Matt Fritz also competed as an individual in the 200 breaststroke but was disqualified for a downward butterfly kick.
  • Bella Tarbet, Myla Rice, Vivian Pickeral and Amelia Maloof teamed up for the final time at the NCAA Championships in the 400 freestyle relay prelims but were disqualified due to an early take-off.
MEET RESULTS SEASON RECAP
  • The Blue and White wrapped up their season with a combined 10-6 dual meet record while the women claimed their 34th Old Dominon Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship and sent four swimmers to the national meet. The men's team secured their tenth ODAC Championship in program history while sending six swimmers to the NCAA Championships, earning their highest finish since 2008.
