Men’s Swimming Garners 11 All-America Citations

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following a very successful trip to the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, the Washington and Lee University men's swimming team garnered 11 All-America citations from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

The Generals secured 75 points across the four-day meet to finish in 19th place, their highest finish since 2018, when they placed 13th. The 75 points also marked the most scored at the national meet since 2008, when they tallied 143 points en route to an eighth-place finish.


W&L had a pair of individual First Team All-Americans, as Matt Fritz and Dalton Jobe each earned the distinction in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, respectively. Fritz, a senior from Reston, Va., secured his spot in the 100 butterfly finals with a program-record time of 47.21s before posting a time of 47.25s to finish fifth in the final race of his career. Jobe, a junior from Henrico, Va., earned his second First Team honor in the 200 freestyle. In the prelims, Jobe posted the sixth-fastest time, touching the wall in 1:37.26 before moving up one spot in the finals to finish fifth with a time of 1:37.17—the second-fastest time in program history.


Charles Byars, Leighton Chapman, Jobe, and Luke Nagel all earned First Team All-America honors in the 800 freestyle relay. The squad entered the National Championships with the fifth-fastest time and moved up one spot to finish in fourth place after posting a time of 6:32.91.


Luke Nagel earned his second-straight Second Team accolade in the 200 freestyle. He clocked in the 15th-fastest time in the event, touching the wall in 1:38.50 to earn a spot in the consolation finals. He moved up one spot in the evening session, clocking a time of 1:38.64 to finish in 14th place.


Jobe, Nagel, Byars, and Chapman rounded out the All-America selections, turning in a top-16 finish in the 400 freestyle relay to earn Second Team honors. The quartet entered the national meet with the eighth-fastest time in the field before posting a time of 2:58.40 to finish in tenth place.
