D’Ambrosia, Evans Reset Program Records at EMU Heritage Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Ashley D'Ambrosia and Jesma Evans of the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team reset program records at the Eastern Mennoninte University Heritage T&F Invitational on Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Jesma Evans and Ashley D'Ambrosia highlighted the meet as they both reset the program records in the 400m and pole vault, respectively. Evans broke the program record in the 400m, crossing the finish line in a new personal-best time of 56.58s to secure a first-place finish. D'Ambrosia reset her own program record in the pole vault after clearing a personal-best height of 3.80m (12'-05.50") to secure the top spot.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia, Olivia D'Ambrosia, Lilly Versen, and Ana Hodneland teamed up in the 4x100m relay to kick off the meet. The squad clocked a time of 50.35s to secure a first-place finish.
  • Joanne Lee was the lone General in the 110m hurdles this afternoon, clocking a time of 16.80s to finish in second place. Lee also claimed the top spot in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:13.44. Ivy Gore turned in a second-place finish in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a new personal-best time of 13.16s. Ana Hodneland posted a fourth-place finish in the 400m, with a time of 1:03.19.
  • Lane Smith and Olivia Lovan both competed in the 800m on Friday. Smith earned a third-place finish after posting a personal-best time of 2:25.02, while Lovan finished sixth, crossing the finish line in 2:35.56.
  • Evans and Olivia D'Ambrosia turned in top-three finishes in the 200m, with Evans clocking the top time of 27.20s to finish in first place. D'Ambrosia finished third in the event after crossing the line in 27.69s.
  • Reese Brown moved into the program's top ten after clocking the sixth-fastest time in the 3,000m steeplechase. Brown crossed the finish line in a new personal-best time of 11:39.06 to finish in first place.
  • Hannah Adams and MacKenzie Moore both competed in the 5,000m this afternoon, with Adams pacing the duo with a third-place finish, crossing the finish line in 19:25.66. Moore clocked a time of 19:54.71 to finish in fifth place.
  • Bailey Hedgemon turned in a top finish in the hammer throw this afternoon, recording a toss of 46.46m (152'-05.00"). Hedgemon also earned a second-place finish in the shot put after recording a season-best mark of 11.05m (36'-03.00"). Bella Timmerding recorded a new personal-best mark of 38.15m (125'-01.75"), the seventh-best in program history, to finish seventh in the event. She also finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 10.03m (32'-10.75").
  • Along with D'Ambrosia, the Generals had three other student-athletes competing in the pole vault. Layla Keadle earned a second-place finish after clearing a height of 3.35m (10'-11.75"), while Abby Cholewa moved up to No. 8 all-time in the event after clearing a personal-best height of 3.20m (10'-05.75") to finish third. Gabby Pullen rounded out the group with a fourth-place finish, soaring over a height of 3.05m (10'-00.00").
  • Mackenzie Morante was the lone General in the triple jump; she recorded a personal-best mark of 10.73m (35'-02.25") to finish fourth. Camille Gillum secured another top finish in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.60m (5'-02.75"). Lilly Versen leaped 4.95m (16'-02.75") to finish in second place. Katie Wood rounded out the action in the javelin, finishing in second place after recording a personal best toss of 29.74m (97'-06.75").

  • Jesma Evans set a new program record in the 400m this afternoon, crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 56.68s to finish in first place. Evans surpassed Dana Lee's previous program-record time of 56.97s, which was set in 2016. Her time currently ranks 18th in Division III this season.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia reset her own program record in the pole vault on Friday, soaring over a new personal-best height of 3.80m (12'-05.50") to claim the top spot in the event. Her program-record mark currently ranks 13th in Division III this season.
  • Abby Cholewa moved up one spot to No. 8 in the pole vault record books after clearing a personal-best height of 3.20m (10'-05.75") to finish third this afternoon. Cholewa surpassed Kaela Fiutak's mark of 10'-05.50", which was set in 2016.
  • Bella Timmerding improved her No. 7 mark in program history in the hammer throw, registering a new personal-best distance of 38.15m (125'-01.75") to finish in seventh place.
  • Reese Brown posted the sixth-best mark in program history in the 3,000m steeplechase after recording a new personal-best time of 11:39.06 to secure a first-place finish. She surpassed Eve Spencer's time of 11:52.95, which was set last season.
