Hedgemon Resets Program Record, Seven Generals Rewrite Record Books at Doc Jopson Invite

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Junior Bailey Hedgemon of the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team reset her own program record while seven other Generals etched their names into the record books on the final day of the Doc Jopson Invite on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MEET
  • Bailey Hedgemon highlighted the final day of action as she reset her own program record in the hammer throw, finishing in first place. Hedgemon recorded a toss of 48.69m (159'-08.75"), which currently ranks sixth in Division III. Katie Wood turned in a sixth-place finish in the event with a personal-best toss of 39.88m (130'-10.00"), the sixth-best mark in program history. Bella Timmerding rounded out the Generals in the hammer throw, finishing in seventh place with a personal-best toss of 37.80m (124'-00.00"), which ranks seventh in program history.
  • Emily Jackson moved up three spots to No. 2 all-time in the program record books in the shot put. Jackson posted a fourth-place finish after recording a personal-best toss of 11.69m (38'-04.00"). Wood and Timmerding finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Wood recorded a personal-best mark of 10.77m (35'-04.00"), while Timmerding threw a season-best 10.51m (34'-05.75").
  • Simone Kasischke was the lone General competing in the high jump, clearing a personal-best height of 1.51m (4'-11.25") to finish in eighth place. In the 1,500m, Emily Sansbury crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 4:57.53 to finish in sixth.
  • Amanda Romano competed in both the 100m and 400m hurdles, besting her No. 2 times in program history in both events. In the 100m hurdles prelims, Romano clocked in at 14.83s before winning the finals with a time of 15.09s. She later posted a time of 1:02.68 in the 400m hurdles to claim first place.
  • Joanne Lee competed alongside Romano in both hurdles events. Lee recorded a personal-best time of 16.25s in the 100m hurdles prelims before finishing sixth in the finals with a time of 16.55s. She also crossed the finish line in 1:13.18 in the 400m hurdles, earning a seventh-place finish.
  • In the 100m dash, Lilly Versen posted the second-fastest time in the prelims at 12.36s before running a 12.24s in the finals—the second-fastest time in program history—to finish second overall. Ashley D'Ambrosia also competed in the 100m, recording a 12.55s in the prelims and finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 12.52s, the fourth-fastest in program history.
  • Annabelle Sutliff and Ana Hodneland finished back-to-back in the 400m, with Sutliff clocking a 1:01.28 to place third and Hodneland finishing fourth in 1:01.82. Hodneland turned in a seventh place finish in the 200m dash after clocking in a time of 27.08s.
  • In the 800m, the Blue and White dominated the event, claiming seven of the top eight spots. Mimi Kemp led the charge, winning the event with a time of 2:17.73. Lucie Graziano followed in third place (2:22.16), Emma Mitchell finished fourth (2:22.45), and Brenna Luczak took fifth (2:22.65). Sofia Petrucelli placed sixth (2:22.97), while Adia Vera (2:23.72) and Mary Gorsky (2:25.06) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

  • Ashley D'Ambrosia posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 100m dash after crossing the finish line in 12.52s. D'Ambrosia moved past Marissa Thompson's time of 12.65s, which was set in 2010.
  • Emily Jackson moved up three spots to No. 2 in the program's shot put record books after recording a personal-best toss of 11.69m (38'-04.00"). She surpassed Sandra Holmes' mark of 38'-03.25", set in 1995.
  • Katie Wood improved her No. 6 all-time mark in the hammer throw, recording a new personal-best toss of 39.88m (130'-10.00") to finish in sixth place. Bella Timmerding moved up one spot in the hammer throw top ten, surpassing teammate Emma Marvelli to reach No. 7 with a mark of 37.80m (124'-00.00").
  • Mimi Kemp moved to No. 7 all-time in the program's 800m record books after crossing the finish line in 2:17.73 to secure a first-place finish in the event. Kemp surpassed Annelise Madison's time of 2:17.86, which was set in 2012. Her time currently ranks 19th in Division III this season.
  • Amanda Romano improved her No. 2 time in the 400m hurdles this afternoon after clocking a time of 1:02.68 to secure a first-place finish. She currently ranks second in Division III this season, moving up one spot from her time at the W&L Carnival. Romano also improved her No. 2 time in the program's 100m hurdles record books after clocking a time of 14.83s in the prelims. Her 100m hurdles time currently ranks sixth in Division III.
