Women’s Track and Field Wins Four Events on Final Day of W&L Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team secured four first place finishes and 18 top-eight performances on the final day of the W&L Carnival on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Amanda Romano highlighted the final day of action with a pair of first-place finishes. Romano improved her No. 2 all-time mark in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:03.33 to win the event, before securing a top finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.11 seconds.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia kicked off the outdoor season with a win in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.62m. Layla Keadle posted the fifth-best mark in program history in the pole vault after clearing 3.32m, finishing in second place. Abby Cholewa and Gabby Pullen finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Cholewa cleared 3.02m to place sixth, while Pullen finished in seventh with a mark of 2.87m.
  • D'Ambrosia, Lilly Versen, Olivia D'Ambrosia, and Ana Hodneland teamed up in the 4x100m relay, posting a time of 49.06 seconds—the fourth-fastest time in program history—to secure first place.
  • Emily Jackson led the shot put crew with a third-place finish, recording a mark of 11.41m, the fifth-best in program history, in her first outdoor meet of the season. Bailey Hedgemon posted a mark of 10.95m to finish in fifth place, while Katie Wood followed in sixth with a mark of 10.58m. Bella Timmerding rounded out the top-eight finishers with an eighth-place finish, recording a mark of 10.34m.
  • Jesma Evans, Lilly Versen and Ashley D'Ambrosia finished three, four, five in the 200m dash, each moving into the program's top-ten list in the event. Evans paced the group with the time of 25.87s, the fifth-fastest time in program history, to finish in third place. Versen finished right behind Evans in fourth with the sixth-fastest time, crossing the finish line in 25.91s while D'Ambrosia finished in fifth with a time of 26.02s which ranks eighth in the program record books.
  • Joanne Lee competed alongside Romano in the 400m hurdles, clocking a time of 1:11.08 to finish in fourth place. She also recorded an eighth-place finish in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 16.90 seconds.
  • Mackenzie Morante was the lone General in the triple jump, turning in a fourth-place finish with a leap of 10.72m. Lucie Graziano rounded out the top finishers for the Blue and White, placing eighth in the 400m with a time of 1:02.48.

TOP-EIGHT FINISHERS TOP TEN UPDATES
  • Amanda Romano bested her No. 2 time in the 400m hurdles, clocking in a new personal best time of 1:03.33 to finish in first place in the event.
  • Emily Jackson moved into the program's shot put record books, recording the fifth-best mark with a toss of 11.41m (37'-05.25'). She moved past Emily Barker's mark of 37'-01.00" which was set in 2004.
  • Layla Keadle posted the fifth-best mark in the pole vault after clearing a personal best height of 3.32m (10'-10.75") to finish second in the event. Her mark surpassed Claire Coleman's mark of 10'-08.25" which was set in 2023.
  • Ashley D'Ambrosia, Lilly Versen, Olivia D'Ambrosia and Ana Hodneland posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 4x100m relay. The squad clocked in a time of 49.06s which moved them past the 2023 squad's time of 49.46s.
  • Three Generals moved into the program's 200m top ten list this afternoon. Jesma Evans moved up to No. 5 after clocking in a time of 25.87 to finish in third place while Lilly Versen posted the sixth-fastest time with a time of 25.91s. Ashley D'Ambrosia moved up to No. 8 as crossed the finish line of 26.02s.
  • Mackenzie Morante moved up to No. 4 all-time in the program's triple jump record book after leaping 10.72m (35'-02.00") on Saturday. Morante's mark surpassed Elizabeth Hertzberg's mark of 34'-11.75" which was set in 2022.
