800 Free Relay Finishes Fourth, Earns First Team All-American Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming 800 freestyle relay team earned First Team All-American honors after a top-five finish on the third day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The men's team now sits in 18th place heading into the final day of the national meet after registering 30 points this evening.
  • Dalton Jobe, Leighton Chapman, Charles Byars, and Luke Nagel highlighted the third day of action as they teamed up in the 800 freestyle relay. The squad entered tonight's final with the fifth-fastest time in the country but moved up one spot to finish in fourth place with a time of 6:32.91, earning First Team All-American honors.
  • Matt Fritz was the lone men's swimmer to compete in an individual event today, taking to the blocks in the 100 backstroke. He clocked the second-fastest time in program history with a time of 49.31, finishing in 21st place.
  • Bella Tarbet competed in her only individual event of the national meet during the morning session, turning in a 41st-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.47.
  • Charles Byars, Harrison Cerone, Matt Fritz, and Leighton Chapman teamed up in the 200 medley relay, clocking a time of 1:30.14 to finish in 19th place.
  • Vivian Pickeral, Amelia Maloof, Bella Tarbet, and Myla Rice also competed in the 200 medley relay this morning, posting a time of 1:49.35 to finish in 25th place.

  • The final day of action will kick off at 10 a.m. with Leighton Chapman competing in the 100 freestyle and Matt Fritz taking to the blocks in the 200 breaststroke. Both men's and women's 400 freestyle relay will also compete in the morning session.
