Men’s Swimming Trio Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team saw three student-athletes earn All-American honors on the second day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The men's team is currently in a tie for 19th place with The College of New Jersey with 31 points. Denison leads the field with 166 points while Kenyon follows in second with 126 points. The University of Chicago (124) is in third, NYU (121.50) sits in fourth while Emory rounds out the top five with 116.50 points.
  • Senior Matt Fritz kicked off the second day of action with a top-five finish in the 100 butterfly prelims, clocking a new program record time of 47.21 seconds to secure his spot in the finals. In the finals heat, Fritz finished in fifth place with a time of 47.25 seconds, earning First Team All-American honors. The All-American nod is his second in as many years, having earned Second Team honors at last year's national meet.
  • Junior Dalton Jobe and senior Luke Nagel both competed in the 200 freestyle during the morning session. Jobe clocked the sixth-fastest time in the prelims with a time of 1:37.26, securing his spot in the finals heat. He then posted a time of 1:37.17, the second-fastest time in program history, to finish in fifth place and secure First Team All-American honors for the second straight season.
  • Nagel posted the 15th-fastest time in the 200 freestyle, clocking 1:38.50 to earn a spot in the consolation finals. He moved up one spot in the evening session, posting a time of 1:38.64 to finish in 14th place and earn Second Team All-American honors.
  • Bella Tarbet, Amelia Maloof, Vivian Pickeral, and Myla Rice competed for the first time at the national meet, teaming up in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet clocked a time of 1:36.47 to finish in 25th place.
  • Leighton Chapman, Matt Fritz, Charles Byars, and Dalton Jobe teamed up in the 200 freestyle relay prelims during the morning session. The squad posted a time of 1:21.02, finishing in 17th place and missing the consolation finals by just one spot.

UP NEXT
  • The third day of action will feature three individual races and two relays in both the prelims and finals sessions. Bella Tarbet will kick off the day in the 200 butterfly, while Matt Fritz will take to the pool for the 100 backstroke. Both the men's and women's relay teams will compete in the 200 medley relay, while Jobe, Chapman, Byars, and Nagel will race in the 800 freestyle relay.
