No. 25 Women’s Track & Field Records 14 Top Ten Finishes at VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. - The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's track and field team recorded 14 top ten finishes and 13 new personal or season bests at the VMI Winter Classic on Saturday. 


HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Senior Ashley D'Ambrosia highlighted the meet for the Blue and White with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.62m (11'-10.50"). First-year Layla Keadle followed closely behind, securing second place with a personal-best height of 3.47m (11'-04.50"), a mark that ranks fourth in program history. First-year Gabby Pullen rounded out the top finishers in the event, clearing 2.87m (9'-05.00") to finish in fifth place.
  • Senior Emma Mitchell and junior Sophia Breschi both competed in the 5,000m run, finishing second and third, respectively. Mitchell clocked a personal-best time of 18:26.79, while Breschi crossed the finish line in 18:39.67, also a personal best.
  • Junior Camille Gillum earned a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.63m (5'-04.25"). First-year Simone Kasischke placed seventh, recording a height of 1.43m (4'-08.25").
  • Sophomore Simmons Lee and Jesma Evans, first-year Ana Hodneland, and senior Amanda Romano teamed up in the 4x400m relay to close out the meet. The quartet finished in third place with a time of 4:07.20, which ranks sixth in program history, surpassing the 2012 squad's time of 4:07.23.
  • Junior Bailey Hedgemon placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 16.03m (52'-07.25"). In the 3,000m run, sophomore Hannah Adams was the lone General in the race, finishing in fifth place with a personal-best time of 11:19.98.
  • Sophomore Brenna Luczak led the Blue and White in the 800m, finishing eighth with a personal-best time of 2:27.32. First-year Lilly Versen recorded two personal bests at the meet. She clocked the third-fastest time in program history in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.94 seconds. Versen also placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.98m (16'-04.25").
  • Romano posted a season-best time of 9.20 seconds in the 60m hurdles, just missing the finals heat with a ninth-place finish. First-year Emily Jackson rounded out the top 10 finishers for the Blue and White, placing tenth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.52m (34'-06.25").
  • First-years Olivia D'Ambrosia and Lane Smith, sophomores Annabelle Sutliff and Joanne Lee, and senior Bella Devraj all recorded personal bests in their respective events on Saturday.

  • Lilly Versen moved up one spot to No. 3 in the 60m dash record books this afternoon after clocking a personal best time of 7.94s. Her time ties Marissa Thompson's time which was set in 2012.
  • Layla Keadle claimed sole possession of No. 4 all-time in the program's pole vault top ten after clearing a personal best height of 3.47m (11'-04.50"). She moves past Murfee Jones' mark of 11'-02.25 which was set in 2020.
  • Simmons Lee, Ana Hodneland, Amanda Romano, Jesma Evans teamed up in the 4x400m relay to cap off the meet. The quartet clocked in the sixth fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 4:07.20 to move past the 2012 squad.
