BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee University riding team secured a strong third-place finish at the spring opener at Virginia Tech, placing in 11 of 12 events and tallying 26 points to tie with the hosts in the overall team standings. Hollins University led with 33 points, while the University of Lynchburg followed with 28.
Leading the Generals was senior Elisabeth Marek, who claimed reserve champion High Point Rider honors. Marek won the Open Equitation over Fences event and placed third in Open Equitation on the Flat. Teammate Allison Hines also had a strong showing, finishing fourth in Open Flat and fifth in Open Fences.
The Generals now sit fourth in the regional standings with 136 points, trailing Lynchburg (188), Hollins (172), and Virginia Tech (140).
