Men’s Track and Field Wraps Up Weekend Double Feature

LEXINGTON, Va. / LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team wrapped up their weekend double feature, recording 12 top eight finishes while two student-athletes etched their names into the record books.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • First-year Sam Daunt led the distance crew at the Bison Open, securing a second-place finish in the 3,000m with a personal-best time of 8:44.56. Fellow first-year Davis Amare competed in the 1,000m, finishing fourth with a time of 2:38.06.
  • Sophomore Will Vaughn impressed in his debut heptathlon, finishing fourth overall with 4,064 points across two days of competition. Vaughn placed fourth in both the 1,000m (3:01.27) and 60m hurdles (9.50s) while securing fifth place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.00m (9'-10.00").
  • At VMI, sophomore Ethan De Fonseka placed fourth in the 400m, clocking a time of 50.96 seconds. Senior Luke Avigliano also competed in the 400m, finishing eighth with a time of 51.70 seconds.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Ryan McKenna, Wilson Kasischke, Javan Hirwa, and Schuyler Clark recorded a time of 3:31.10 to secure a fourth-place finish.
  • Senior George Marable and junior Danny Jakubowski-Lewis advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles on Saturday afternoon. Marable clocked 8.68 seconds to finish fifth, while Jakubowski-Lewis followed in sixth with a time of 9.08 seconds.
  • Sophomore Patrick Haynes posted a top-eight finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 13.21m (43'-04.25") to place sixth. In the pole vault, first-year Lukas Michael and junior Troy Spillman finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Michael cleared 3.86m (12'-08.00"), while Spillman recorded a height of 3.41m (11'-02.25").
  • Several athletes recorded personal or season best performances at the Bison Open. Junior Luke Newton clocked in a personal best time of4:46.81 in the mile run, while senior Henry Haden posted a season best time of 9:10.35 and Thomas Kallen set a new personal best in the 3,000m with a time of 9:14.92.

  • Evan Novak cemented his place in the weight throw record books on Saturday afternoon, recording the fifth-best toss of 14.72m (48'-03.50") to secure a ninth-place finish. His mark surpasses Walker Duncan's 2005 record of 48'-00.75" and currently ranks 11th in the South Region and sixth in the conference.
  • Jonathan Farbman made back-to-back entries into the record books, posting the fourth-fastest 200m dash time in program history. He clocked in at 22.76 seconds to finish 12th in the event. His mark is tied for seventh in the South Region and fourth in the ODAC.

UP NEXT
  • The Blue and White will split up on Saturday, Feb. 8 as members of the team will compete at the Camel City Distance Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. and the rest of the team will head to VMI for the Winter Classic
