BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The No. 10 Washington and Lee women's cross country team turned in a top-five team finish at one of the nation's largest meets on Saturday morning, placing fifth out of 45 programs in the White 6K race at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The Generals scored 228 points to finish behind No. 5 NYU (55), No. 7 Carnegie Mellon (157), No. 12 SUNY Geneseo (197), and No. 25 Middlebury (206).
The Generals were led by junior Olivia Warr, who crossed 9th overall in 21:15.0. Classmate Lydia Harvey finished 26th (21:52.7), with senior Eve Spencer adding a 53rd-place showing (22:19.5). First-years Maddy Morgan (61st, 22:23.3) and Adelaide Ellis (82nd, 22:38.3) rounded out the scoring five. Claire Fuchs (135th, 23:02.7) and Amelia Weenig (152nd, 23:11.7) were the sixth and seventh General to cross the finish line.
The result marked an improvement from the 2024 results in which the squad placed 13th overall. This is W&L's highest team finish at Paul Short since entering the White 6K field and came against multiple nationally ranked programs.
In addition to the varsity competition, a large group of Generals also raced in the women's open 6K, which featured more than 450 competitors. Mary Gorsky led the W&L contingent in 142nd place with a time of 23:22.7, followed by Sarah Clark in 179th (23:40.3) and Lane Smith in 206th (23:54.1). Fourteen Generals in total gained valuable experience in the large field. Find the meet's full results, HERE.
