Men's Swimming Takes Down Lynchburg 177–85 to Open Parents and Family Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University men's swimming team remained unbeaten in dual meets with a 177–85 victory over the University of Lynchburg on Friday evening at the W&L Natatorium. The Generals claimed 11 of 14 events, highlighted by sweeps in both relays and multiple top-three finishes across the board.

W&L built early momentum behind a win in the opening 200 medley relay and never looked back. Seniors Dalton Jobe and Harrison Cerone led the team with two individual victories each, while Leighton Chapman, Charles Byars, and Zane Ross each captured key event wins to help the Generals outpace the Hornets by nearly 100 points.


Up Next: Washington and Lee returns to action with a split weekend schedule. The Generals travel to Chicago for the Chicago Shoot Out, competing on Friday, November 7, at 4 p.m. CT and again on Saturday, November 8, at 11:30 a.m. CT.

Meanwhile, select swimmers will compete at home against Southern Virginia University on Friday, November 7, at 6 p.m. in the W&L Natatorium.

Notable Performances

  • Leighton Chapman led all scorers and swept the sprint freestyle events, capturing the 50 (20.83) and 100 (46.77) while anchoring the winning 200 medley and leading off the 200 freestyle relays.
  • Dalton Jobe tallied three event victories, winning the 500 freestyle racesand winning the 200 individual medley in 1:57.78 and anchoring the 200 freestyle relay.
  • Harrison Cerone swept both breaststroke races — the 100 (57.72) and 200 (2:10.97) — and swam a 25.00 split on the victorious medley relay.
  • Zane Ross contributed two individual wins in the 100 butterfly (51.57) and 200 butterfly (1:57.13) and added a key third leg on the winning medley relay.
  • Charles Byars secured a win in the 200 freestyle (1:44.27), placed third in the 200 backstroke (2:01.23), and swam the opening backstroke leg on the winning 200 medley relay.
  • Additional scoring came from Thomas Denton, Carter Whetstine, and Cooper Tinsley, who each posted top-three finishes in multiple events to extend the Generals' margin.
