SALEM, Va. — Members of the 14th-ranked  Washington and Lee women's cross country team posted a strong third-place finish at the 2025 Roanoke South Region Showdown on Saturday morning at Green Hill Park. The meet served as a key preview of the regional championship course, where the Generals will look to defend their 2024 South Region title in November.

The Generals totaled 84 points to place behind Division I East Tennessee State (31) and Ohio Northern (65) while finishing ahead of Southern Virginia (99) and Lynchburg (109) in the 23-team field.

W&L was led by first-year Maddy Morgan, who crossed 14th overall in 22:43.7, closely followed by classmate Josie Engle in 15th (22:44.3). Fellow first-years Adelaide Ellis (22nd, 23:20.8) and Amelia Weenig (27th, 23:38.4) joined sophomore Lane Smith (33rd, 23:46.2) in rounding out the scoring five. Junior Mary Gorsky (42nd, 24:06.1) and first-year Audrey Robinson (44th, 24:12.9) displaced for the Blue and White.

For W&L's first-year competitors, the meet marked their first collegiate race at Green Hill Park — the same course that will host the NCAA South Region Championships later this fall. Find the meet's full results, HERE.
