LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team closed out its weekend and fall competition schedule on Saturday with a 5-2 win against Virginia Wesleyan on the Upper Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Generals (2-0, 2-0 ODAC) swept doubles play to claim the first point of the match. Junior Sanjheev Rao and first-year Henry Imorde got a 6-2 win at No. 1, sophomore Sahil Arora and first-year Harrison Silver won, 6-3, at No. 3, and sophomore Ryan Good and first-year Pearce Lane took a 7-5 decision at No. 2.
- First-year Todd Cannaliato (1), Lane (2), first-year Justin Ilie (5) and Good (6) all picked up wins in singles for the Generals, while Jed Platts (3) and Sebastien Muller (4) were winners for the Marlins (0-1, 0-1 ODAC.
- Cannaliato picked up the only straight-set win for the Blue and White, going 7-5, 6-1 at the top spot. Lane fought off Tudor Vlad at No. 2 by a final of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, and Ilie rebounded at No. 5 after losing the first set for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
- Good rounded out the winners for the Generals, also rallying after dropping the first set. Anas Benbrahim outlasted Good in a tiebreak to open the match, before Good claimed the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
UP NEXT:
The Generals will be off before returning to action in February for their spring season. They will pick back up on February 14 at Division I James Madison. Their first home match of the spring season will come on March 5 against Division I Furman.
