Five Generals Enter Record Books on Second Day of Finn Pincus Invite

SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team saw five student-athletes etch their names into the program's record book on the final day of the Finn Pincus Invite at Roanoke College. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White had five student-athletes improve their marks or enter the program's top ten list while securing ten top eight finishes on the second day of action at the Cregger Center. 
  • Graduate student Cassie Carr and junior Sophia Breschi both earned spots on the program's top-ten list after stellar performances in the mile run. Carr posted the sixth-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 5:06.97 to secure first place. Her time ranks first in the conference and south region, and 12th in Division III.
  • Breschi followed closely behind, finishing in second place with a time of 5:12.49, the eighth-fastest time in program history. Her performance ranks third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), fourth in the south region, and 22nd in Division III this season.
  • Senior Amanda Romano qualified for the 60m hurdles finals on Friday and clocked a time of 9.34 seconds on Saturday to secure a third-place finish. Her time ranks second in the ODAC, fourth in the south region, and 39th in Division III this season.
  • Junior Bailey Hedgemon broke her own program record in the weight throw, improving her mark by nearly three feet. She recorded a throw of 16.17m (53'-00.75"), earning third place. This personal best ranks first in the conference and region, and 16th in Division III.
  • The 4x400m relay team, featuring Simmons Lee, Ana Hodneland, Sofia Petrucelli, and Lucie Graziano, capped off the two-day meet with a strong performance. The squad clocked a time of 4:21.49, finishing in fourth place.
  • Sophomore Brenna Luczak was one of four Generals to post a personal-best time on Saturday, finishing sixth in the 1,000m run with a time of 3:08.42. Sophomore Lucie Graziano also competed in the 1,000m run, recording a time of 3:10.22 to finish seventh.
  • Sophomore Reese Brown joined Carr and Breschi in the mile run, delivering a sixth-place finish with a time of 5:23.12.
  • First-year Emily Jackson continued her impressive start, improving her personal best in the shot put for the second straight meet. Jackson recorded a throw of 11.23m (36'-10.25"), moving up to No. 5 in the program record books and finishing eighth in the event.

TOP TEN LIST UPDATES
  • Cassie Carr shined in her debut meet with the Blue and White on Saturday. The graduate student posted the sixth-fastest time in the mile, crossing the finish line in 5:06.97 to secure first place. Carr surpassed Parker Hawk's time of 5:10.51, which was set in 2023.
  • Sophia Breschi climbed two spots in the mile run record books to No. 8 after clocking a time of 5:12.49, finishing right behind Carr in second place. Breschi moved past Avery Schiffman's time of 5:13.53, which was set during the 2022 season.
  • Bailey Hedgemon broke her own program record in the weight throw with an impressive toss. She improved her previous mark from 50'-08.50" to 53'-00.75" (16.17m), finishing third in the event.
  • Bella Timmerding achieved a personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 12.93m (42'-05.25"), which now ranks fifth in program history for the event.
  • Emily Jackson advanced one spot to No. 5 in the shot put top-ten list in just her second meet of her young career. Jackson recorded a toss of 11.23m (36'-10.25"), surpassing Sandra Holmes' mark of 36'-08.50, which was set in 1994.

  • The Blue and White are back in action on Jan. 24-25 as they travel to neighboring Virginia Miltary Institute for the VMI Invitational. The meet schedule and live results will be available at a later date.
