DANVILLE, Ky. – The Washington and Lee University field hockey team shut out Rhodes College 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, securing their fourth win of the season.
The Generals (3-1) dominated from the start, outshooting the Lynx (1-2) 20-1 and allowing only one shot on goal.
W&L's offensive pressure paid off early, with forward
Sydney Baggett opening the scoring at the 6:06 mark. Baggett then added a second goal in the 16th minute, ensuring a comfortable lead that the Generals maintained throughout the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 6:06 – W&L – Sydney Baggett scored off a rebound in front of the goal after two consecutive penalty corners, giving the Generals an early 1-0 lead.
- 16:38 – W&L – Baggett extended the lead with a second unassisted goal in the next quarter. Sophomore Zoe Dolfis fired a backhanded cross into the middle from the left side, and after a defensive stop, Baggett capitalized on the loose ball for the insurance score.
