SEWANEE, Tenn. – The 27th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team managed one team point on Tuesday in a loss to No. 15 Sewanee, their second-straight Top 15 opponent.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Junior
Will Kistler picked up a win at No. 2 singles for the Generals (12-7). He rebounded after dropping the first set, 6-3, to Peyton Erck to win the second set in a tiebreak and the third in a 10-point breaker. Kistler edged Erck, 8-6, in the second-set break before tallying a 10-7 win in the third to claim the match.
Junior
Evan Erb also went to three sets, but ultimately fell to Division III's No. 1 ranked player in Jordan Theron. Erb took the first set from Theron, 6-3, but Theron stormed back with 6-1 wins in the next two sets. Erb's match against Theron marked his second straight singles matchup against a Top 2 nationally-ranked foe.
Erb and Kistler fell at No. 1 singles, 8-6, to Theron and Quinn Qicklund, who are Division III's No. 1 doubles duo, while the Tigers (18-4) picked up 8-5 wins each at No. 2 and No. 3. Singles matches 3-6 also favored the hosts in straight sets. Junior
Eli Hirshberg forced a tiebreaker in the first set at No. 3 against Wicklund and first-year
Heys Parker pushed his first set at No. 6 to 12 games against Henry Hyden.
