Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 27 Men's Tennis topped by third-ranked Emory

ATLANTA – The 27th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 3 Emory on Sunday afternoon in its return to action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals' (12-6) lone team point came from the top position in doubles, as juniors Evan Erb and Will Kistler topped Ryan Glanville and Brandon Cohen by an 8-6 score. Erb and Kistler entered the day as the ninth-ranked doubles tandem in the region, while Glanville and Cohen are currently second in the region.

Juniors Eli Hirshberg and James Kurani nearly helped the Blue and White secure a 2-1 lead through doubles play, but they fell in a tiebreak at No. 3 by a 7-4 score.

The Eagles (14-4) then won all six singles matches in straight sets to yield the final team result. Only Erb at No. 1 and Hirshberg at No. 4 forced tiebreakers to mark the closest results. Erb, ranked eighth in Division III, lost the tiebreaker to second-ranked Dean Kamenev, 7-3, before falling in the second set, 6-2. Hirshberg's first-set breaker lasted one few point than Erb's and the second set mirrored the No. 1 singles result.
