LEXINGTON, Va. – The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team picked up two more wins on Saturday, including a 7-2 Senior Day victory over Guilford in the afternoon, for the second day this week posting two wins in one day.
MATCH VS. FRANKLIN & MARSHALL (W, 9-0):
The Generals had a clean sweep of F&M in the morning to improve to 9-4 overall. It began with an 8-0 victory from juniors
Evan Erb and
Will Kistler at No. 1 doubles, before No. 2 turned in an 8-5 win and No. 3 claimed an 8-4 victory. First-year
Heys Parker and senior
Josh Rassin were at No. 2 and juniors
Eli Hirshberg and
James Kurani teamed up at No. 3.
Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Erb (1) and first-year
Sanjheev Rao (5) both posted 6-1, 6-0 wins, while Hirshberg dropped only three games total (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3. Kistler (2) and Coleman (6) both won their first sets by 7-5 scores, while Kistler surrendered only two games in the next set to four for Coleman. Kurani was the lone three-set singles match, and he rebounded to win sets two and three, 6-0, 6-2, after dropping the first set, 4-6.
MATCH VS. GUILFORD (W, 7-2):
W&L featured all four seniors in the lineup for its afternoon tilt against the Quakers (5-3, 2-1 ODAC). The doubles tandems of Erb/Kistler (8-4) and Parker/Rassin (8-2) picked up their second doubles wins of the day at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Coleman also claimed his second doubles victory, but this time with Rao at No. 3, as the two defeated Rishi Halukurike and Evan Wong, 8-1.
Hirshberg (3), Coleman (4) and senior
Jonathan Molner (6) highlighted singles play with straight-set wins each. Hirshberg cruised, 6-3, 6-2, Coleman won both his sets, 7-5, while Molner posted a 6-4, 7-5 win. Erb picked up the final team point for the Blue and White in the match, which came in a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) match against Andres Mercedes at No. 1.
Guilford's two team points came at No. 2 and 5. Brandon Hermes was at No. 2 for a 6-3, 6-3 win, while Rylan Tuten was the victor at No. 5, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
Erb continued his quest for 100 career combined singles and doubles wins, and Saturday's victories leave him at 92.
As a team, the Generals improved to 27-3 in singles and 14-1 in doubles against ODAC counterparts.

The Generals will return to the courts next Saturday, March 30, when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., for an 11:00 a.m. start against No. 18 Carnegie Mellon.
