PITTSBURGH – The 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 final to No. 37 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, as the two sides played to decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The W&L (10-5) duo of senior
Josh Rassin and first-year
Heys Parker picked up the team's lone doubles win, 8-3, at No. 2. The other two doubles matches were claimed by the Tartans, but both came in tiebreaks. Juniors
James Kurani and
Eli Hirshberg fell at No. 3 in a 7-1 breaker, before juniors
Evan Erb and
Will Kistler's marathon match completed at the top spot. In a seemingly never-ending battle, Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong got the team point in a 16-14 breaker final.
Erb strengthened his resume for the season with a win at No. 1 singles over fifth-ranked Jangbahadur, which finished 6-4, 6-4.
The Tartans finished off their win with straight-set singles victories at Nos. 3, 4 and 6. In all three matches, the Generals were unable to take more than six total games.

The Generals will step back into ODAC play in their next match, when they travel to Averett next Saturday, April 6, for a 1:00 p.m. start.
