Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 19 Men's Tennis upended by 10th-ranked Denison

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 19 Washington and Lee men's tennis team fell by a 9-0 score to 10th-ranked Denison on Monday in the closing match of the Duchossois Tennis Invitational.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Big Red (5-2) claimed all three doubles matches by 8-4 scores, before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Juniors Evan Erb (1) and Will Kistler (2) forced their first sets to 12 total games, but Kael Shah and Jacob Patterson prevailed, 7-5, each. Both second sets in the top two positions then favored the Denison players, 6-1.
 
First-year Sanjheev Rao won a W&L-high eight total games across all singles matches, falling by a 6-4, 6-4 final at No. 5 against Ethan Green, while first-year Heys Parker was topped, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4.
 
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
Shah, Patterson and Ethan Green (3) were all ranked nationally and regionally for the Big Red, providing tough matchups at the top three positions.
 
The Generals remain ahead of the Big Red in the all-time series, 6-4, but Denison has won both of the last two matches.
 
UP NEXT:
The Generals will face in-state rival and 29th-ranked Mary Washington in their next match, with a first serve on Sunday, March 17, at 1:00 p.m. in Lexington.
